🌸 A Synonym for Japanese Ceramics
Seto Ware: The Homeland of Maneki-neko
✨ Originating from Seto City and its surrounding areas in Aichi Prefecture, Seto ware dates back to the Kamakura period and is recognized as one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns. Seto was an early pioneer in glazing techniques and gained renown for its ceramic maneki-neko (beckoning cats), to the point where "Seto-mono" became a general term for ceramics. It was designated a Japanese Traditional Craft in 1977 and became part of the Japan Heritage in 2017. Its style is approachable and understated, with diverse painting styles and forms, representing a charming presence in everyday life.
